About Therapy

It’s hard to face each day…

You’re feeling misunderstood, unheard, incompetent.

You want to feel valued and live up to the expectations of others. Or maybe you set your own expectations for yourself and others too high and are consistently disappointed.

Unable to set healthy boundaries, you suffer silently.

You know you are not at your best when challenges seem like mountains, transitions are fear-provoking, and life’s uncertainties bring panic and isolation.

Anxiety and depression can leave you blinded to your possibilities and rob you of rich life experiences.

You want to change and live the best you. You deserve to feel important again.

Letting go of unhelpful habits, patterns, and cycles is hard and scary.

I want to help you.

I have found traditional therapy like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic techniques essential. But I also found that modern, more flexible therapies like Brainspotting, Mindfulness, Somatic Body Awareness, Polyvagyl Therapy, relaxation work and positive psychology can add balance and let us explore the unique goodness inside you that you may have forgotten.

I want you to experience the complete package of traditional and holistic therapy.

It’s essential that we integrate the physical body and the mental mind so you feel alive and connected.

I will give you all of the tools you need to do this and you will determine the pace we work at.

Let’s shift the focus from what’s wrong to what’s right.

What if I told you we could improve your quality of life by changing your perspective?

Spending days on end dwelling on the things you cannot do, imperfections, adopting a non-committal attitude toward self, and trying to pre-plan and control events will sabotage you.

Optimism is a powerful tool. Studies show that the ability to have optimistic thinking can improve your immune system, fight off disease, and lead to a happier outlook.

Imagine being able to accept your weaknesses and turn the focus to your strengths. Doing more of what you do well and accepting what you do not do so well is a powerful tool. Through our sessions together, I will help you find self-fulfillment and align your body and mind for balance.

We can shift from I can’t to I can. Now that’s a powerful motto.

Here’s how therapy can help you…

Explore yourself…

Do you feel authentic? Can you look at what makes you great and accept what does not stack up? Accepting you can grow is a freeing experience.

Feel more positive emotions…

Do you hold yourself back from good feelings because things are not just right? All or nothing thinking or discounting the positive can ruin your day. The ability to balance positive and negative emotions can have a big impact on your mental health.

Minimize worry and stress…

Signs of stress send you spiraling? Counteracting catastrophic irrational thoughts can have profound effects on your body and mind.

Increase your motivation…

Of all the things going well, you pick out the one negative thing and focus all your attention on it. This leads to demotivation. Restructuring negativity and weighing the consequences is a great learning skill.

Accomplish your goals…

Do you link your ability to perform with a 100% guarantee that it will be a success and wonder why you are stuck? Fortune telling or jumping to conclusions can stop you in your tracks.

Stop perfectionism…

Are you a catastrophic thinker? Do the stars need to align for you to feel authentic? Challenging this and replacing it with compassionate self-talk is a key skill to add to your toolbox.

Let go of resentment…

Do you clearly understand how things “should be” vs. how they are? This can lead to blaming others and distort the quality of your relationships. Therapy can challenge your thinking and teach you to ask yourself important questions and weigh the evidence.

Build your skills…

We are all born with a negative bias and tendency for black and white thinking. Living in the grey area can ease our struggles and increase satisfaction. Being able to better shape your thoughts about yourself in the world around you can give you a broader perspective and less hurtful comparisons, help you gain self-trust, and make room to become unique.

Develop self-awareness…

We are often tough on ourselves. We use the double standard and judge ourselves harsher than others. This leads to labeling ourselves as bad, not enough. We can learn to separate our destructive behaviors from who we are to develop a better self-ideal.

Address bad life experiences

Sometimes anxiety and depression come out of nowhere when things seem good. We assume we are doing something wrong not realizing we never gave ourselves the time to process and heal. Unconsciously these can come back to ruin your present. We can learn to set up a safe space to address these old parts of you and reconcile them to who you are today.

Add meaning to your life…

Are you a giver and not a taker? Are you afraid to ask for your needs to be met? Learning how to balance giving and taking is an essential skill to get what you want and have your personal needs met.

You deserve to live better.

My approach to therapy is the essential step you are missing.

I will listen, ask questions, understand, be compassionate to your struggles, and challenge you when necessary.

Empathy and listening are the keys to my strength to help you move forward in a secure and private online space that is yours alone.

“Happiness is a choice that requires effort at times.”
–Aeschylus

Did you know that happiness is 50% inherited?

That’s right. This means you have to fight for it. And like learning any new skill, the rewards are great.

Small changes can greatly impact your everyday happiness. They talk about THE GOOD LIFE… it can be yours with a little work.

Learning positive interventions is an important part of the therapeutic process. Optimism, gratitude, self-compassion, kindness, relaxation and mindfulness are proven interventions that lead to satisfaction. These are easy to learn!

Conversely, the ability to identify negativity, restructure harmful thinking, adapt controlling behaviors and listen to your body is essential. These can all be learned, reinforced, and put to work fairly easily with proactive therapy.

Therapy with me is not one-dimensional. I have a specific approach.

First of all, my clients have told me I remember everything!

This is a key strength of mine as a therapist. Clients are often surprised at what I remember that they don’t. It helps them feel listened to and safe. It allows us to trace your history and explore the impact it may be causing in the present. I am invested in your story.

I’m also an outside-the-box thinker.

Being a businesswoman in a past career has trained me to think of the bigger picture. I help clients identify bigger challenges and goals and the ability to break them down into smaller, more manageable, and measurable tasks for success.

I combine traditional and holistic psychology.

I am well versed in many modalities of treatment. My approach starts with you and your unique needs. Best laid plans can be thrown off course due to events in your life. We will shift interventions as needed to keep your goals intact. This allows us the flexibility to give you the exact help you need.

I have incorporated a holistic approach so that therapy with me is not one dimensional. Traditional techniques are the pillar of our therapy. Brainspotting, Somatic body Awareness and Polyvagyl Therapy will take us one step further by restoring your body as a safe place. We will learn techniques to cue into physical awareness to allow us to release stress, anxiety and trauma from your body to allow your mind to feel fully connected.

We will also explore your physical health and develop wellness plans to strengthen your mind and body. Intertwining Relaxation Therapy is a key component of increasing well-being and mental health.

About Me

I have been where you’re sitting now

I have had some life-altering events that led me to search for a therapist.

My first experiences were less than stellar.

I was not a therapist then. I knew my story was important. Yet, why did therapy not feel right? I did not feel heard or validated. It just felt one sided.

After some reflection, I understood I had a voice and needed to use it and I had a choice. Then I found the ONE… my therapist, who listened, questioned, understood, and challenged me. It gave me strength and hope for my future.

Some of my education and experience…

I obtained my Master of Social Work from Adelphi University, and I’m a clinical social worker (LCSW) licensed in Florida and New York.

I have worked extensively in mental health clinics with adults, children, and families experiencing various mental health struggles. I started my private practice with the goal of bringing the best evidence based techniques to you along with a mix of holistic healing techniques to keep you well rounded and grounded.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked in Corporate America. Back to my therapist … the ONE… after 15 years, that career no longer fulfilled me. We explored how to make positive changes in my life, and I enrolled in graduate school to become the therapist I always knew was inside me. I realized from a young age that I was the friend who listened and helped my peers. Finally, I knew I had reached personal fulfillment.

I love what I do and the impact it has on my clients. I am never satisfied with my education and experience, so you will find me continually in classes with mentors learning new techniques and alternative ways to heal. My practice needs to be innovative to help you.

My goal is to help you feel listened to, validated, have hope and enjoy the progress you will make.

When I’m not doing therapy…

I try to live a balanced life. You will find me exercising most days to clear my head before a long day. Cooking and trying new recipes at night helps me end my day. I have found a sense of adventure as I get older. I am an avid skier and have even tried dog sledding.

I also love to hike and bird-watch. A trip to the Everglades is my best day. I like opposites… Florida and NY, summer and winter, sand and snow.

I am blessed with two beautiful adult children who still keep me very busy, a loving partner who believes in me, and my senior pup, Bannana.
